In 2003 With the help of MMF, a local partner has established The Wiang PaPao Christian Quality of Life Development Project . This partner is a group of Karen leaders from 5 villages. They see this project very much as linked with their faith, and they want to serve their communities. They want their communities to become strong, and to have sustainable activities that will benefit them and their children for generations to come.
They have formed savings and credit groups, and are learning about raising animals for income generation. In addition, biogas development and fish pond development are also taking place. The loans for this project are provided in partnership with Heifer Project International and numerous training activities are taking place also. There is a great concern that project activities are helping people to take care of their land, to preserve the soil, and to help people make an honest living.
At this time, __ families are have received animal loans and are keeping cattle. In addition __ families are keeping pigs. With the help of MMF staff, an animal health training for farmers has been established. This will result in a group of farmers who have a recognized certificate as a ‘livestock vaccinator,” who is be able to obtain vaccines from the government. These same farmer trainees will also be trained to handle the most common animal health problems themselves, or know how to get help when necessary.
