| The minority people of Thailand , like people everywhere are being affected by the continued degeneration of the environment. It is therefore important to teach the youth to protect and care for our environment so that the future may be improved. We believe God has created this Earth, allowed us to live in it, and given us the responsibility to maintain it; however, its environment is facing major natural resource and environmental problems. In Thailand the forest is being destroyed, the soil is less fertile and both the water and air are polluted. The two main causes for these changes are population growth and economic growth. Our population is increasing exponentially, increasing the consumption of resources such as food and energy. Economic growth and technological progress has raised the standard of living, which increases intake beyond actual need. Therefore, there is a shortage of natural resources and a degeneration of the environment. Minority tribes in Thailand are feeling the effects of these environment problems. The less-fertile soil yields lower quality crops. As trees, wild animals and clean water become scarcer, tribal people are not able to meet their basic consumption needs. |

It is important to teach both young and old to see the urgent need for environmental preservation. We hope the youth will co-operate together with local leaders, government and non-government organizations. The youth are the new generation who can take charge of confronting this huge problem. Perhaps in the future we will once again have sufficient environmental resources to sustain us, our children and generations to come. As trees, wild animals and clean water become scarcer, tribal people are not able to meet their basic consumption needs. Climate change causes the rain to be less predictable and flooding a more serious problem. Forest fires become more frequent and the changes in seasons affect agriculture. Rivers and streams dry up and a lack of trees causes the soil to wash away during floods. Increased garbage spreads disease and blemishes communities. All these changes are created by humans. Will the village, community, country and world remain a healthy place to live in the future?
